Dear Vice Chancellor Echeverria,
Thank you for your comment on in importance of “life-long learning.” It is often a statement that is misunderstood. The definition you shared with your video audience places a distinct or true meaning of the terminology as it applies to everyone’s life today.
From the perspective of both a CSU student and employee, I agree with your comment that whether one is an advisor, a teacher, a staff person, a janitor, or an administrator, someone within the CSU has provided me with an incentive “to achieve” despite setbacks!
As a 23-year veteran employee of the CSU, I have always supported my student assistants in their endeavor to achieve because of my desire to do the same, plus I feel it is everyone’s social and emotional responsibility to be a coach or mentor to our students in whatever capacity inspires them to continue their education. (By being a student myself, I am more cognizant of the challenges faced by students on a day-to-day basis.)
My personal goal in life is to remain a life-long learner and to graduate so I can say “I did it!”
Dr. Echeverria, thank you for sharing “your roots” with the student population, their parents and professors alike. Your video is inspiring for all students and I am of the opinion that it should be shown in the form of welcoming statement to all future students during their orientation to the respective CSU campus to which they have been accepted.
