Honoring Women Leaders of the CSU

CSU San Marcos President Karen S. Haynes, Cal State Fullerton President Mildred García, and Cal State Northridge President Dianne F. Harrison

Recently, CSU San Marcos President Karen S. Haynes and Cal State Fullerton President Mildred García were commended for their commitment to advancing women in higher education.

On March 2, the American Council on Education honored CSUSM President Karen S. Haynes with the 2013 Donna Shavlik Award for her exemplary contributions to women in higher education and transforming CSUSM into a model environment for women.

The California Legislative Women’s Caucus lauded President García for her accomplishments—including becoming the first Latina president at a CSU campus—during the “Breaking the Glass Ceiling” awards ceremony on March 4.

Along with Cal State Northridge President Dianne F. Harrison—whose appointment last year to the commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and her appointment by Governor Jerry Brown to the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education adds to an extensive list of service to higher education associations—the three sitting women presidents of the CSU serve as exemplary models for women leaders in higher education.
