The following statement can be attributed to Chancellor Timothy P. White, California State University

“It was my privilege today to represent the 23 campuses, 437,000 students and 44,000 employees of the California State University at the College Opportunity Summit hosted by President Obama in Washington D.C. The President and First Lady have done a great service to our country by bringing together not only education leaders but also foundation and business leaders, and local and state elected officials. They have shone a bright light on a national crisis of low educational achievement in America, particularly among low-income students. If the initiatives unveiled today are to succeed, California must lead the way. The CSU is driving innovation in educating students of diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Yet, the key to our success – going forward – lies in our ability to strengthen partnerships with K-12 school districts, and grow existing collaborations with the California Community Colleges and the University of California. We are also grateful that Californians value higher education and passed Proposition 30, and that the Governor and Legislature are reinvesting in public education. With the support of the electorate, Governor and Legislature, we are prepared to make real difference in the lives of economically-disadvantaged students and look forward to working with the Administration in moving these initiatives forward.”
