Governor Appoints Alexanian as Student Trustee

Governor Jerry Brown has announced the appointment of Talar Alexanian to the California State University Board of Trustees.

Alexanian is a student at CSU Northridge, pursuing a degree in journalism and public relations. She has served as vice-president of CSUN Associated Students since 2013 and was an upper-division senator from 2012 to 2013. Alexanian has been a student representative for the CSU Admission Advisory Council since 2012 and was an events assistant at the CSUN Matador Involvement Center from 2011 to 2013. She was an intern for Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian in 2010 and a public relations and media intern for the Armenian National Committee of America in 2010. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the National Society of Leadership and Success and the Public Relations Student Society of America.

The appointment is for a two-year term.  Alexanian will serve as the non-voting student trustee in her first year and assume the voting student trustee position in her second year.  The current voting student trustee is Cipriano Vargas. Trustees do not receive a salary for their service to the university – with exceptions for the chancellor and the faculty trustee.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of the 23-campus system.  Under present law there are 25 Trustees (24 voting, one non-voting).  Five Trustees are ex officio members: the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker of the Assembly, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Chancellor.
