Governor Appoints Faigin to the Board of Trustees

Governor Jerry Brown has announced the appointment of Douglas Faigin to the California State University Board of Trustees.

Faigin has been president of City News Service Inc. since 1985. He was owner and general manager at KBCR Inc. from 1981 to 1985. He served as press secretary for Jerry Brown’s 1974 gubernatorial campaign and deputy campaign manager in Brown’s reelection campaign in 1978. He earned a doctorate degree in political science from Claremont Graduate University and a Master of Science degree in journalism from Northwestern University.

The appointment requires Senate confirmation. Trustees do not receive a salary for their service to the university – with exceptions for the Chancellor and the Faculty Trustee.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of the 23-campus system. Under present law, there are 25 Trustees (24 voting, one non-voting). Five Trustees are ex officio members: the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the Assembly, State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Chancellor.
