CSU Chancellor Timothy P. White traveled to Washington, DC last week, where he met with Secretary Arne Duncan and other senior Education Department officials, Rep. John Kline (R-MN), chair of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and Rep. George Miller (D-CA), the committee’s ranking Democratic member. Discussions centered on the role played by the CSU in meeting federal goals related to access, quality, affordability and completion and CSU priorities for reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
While in DC, Chancellor White also joined more than 200 fellow CSU alumni in the DC area for networking and socializing at Back to College Night on Capitol Hill. Sponsored by the California State Society, the event brought together alumni and friends from more than forty California colleges and universities, including all 23 CSU campuses. This year’s attendees included Reps. Ed Royce (CSU Fullerton ‘77), Jim Costa (CSU Fresno ‘74), and Lois Capps, who represents Cal Poly SLO. Washington D.C. is one of the top regions of the country where California State University alumni, 2.8 million strong and growing across the nation, live and work outside of California.
