CSU Strengthens Partnership with Media
Some of the top players in the entertainment industry sat down with representatives of the CSU recently to collaborate on preparing students for careers in media and related fields. Executives from The Walt Disney Company, DreamWorks, Paramount, Sony and others at the CSU’s Entertainment Advisory Council’s fourth annual meeting heard about the CSU’s current partnerships such as DreamWorks’ DreamCrits program in which industry professionals critique students’ work and CSU Fullerton Mihaylo College of Business’ new program that prepares students for business-related media careers. The CSU supplies almost half of the state’s graduates in media studies, film, and communications. Industry partnerships will become increasingly important, Chancellor Charles B. Reed noted, because students are facing greater challenges due to the CSU’s budget reductions. The CSU established an Entertainment Industry Initiative in 2005 focused on creating an advisory council, student internships, a visiting fellows program and equipment acquisition. To date, over 3,000 students have been placed at 1,700 internship sites.
