This program seeks to build consortia among CSU media arts departments to facilitate technology and equipment purchasing from around the state. The goals are to secure substantial bulk-buy discounts to provide consistent technology foundation and to keep up with changing industry standards.

A bulk-buy of Apple computer hardware and software was made with 16 CSU campuses buying more than 800 state of the art machines and software. This helped the CSU negotiate an unprecedented discount from Apple resulting in almost $700,000 in savings.

The editing systems have allowed us to rewrite our curriculum and integrate digital technology to our media programs—we not only substantially upgraded our production workflow in film, we are also now in the first round of discussions with the graphic arts program, computer science, and music to establish an integrated curriculum that will allow us to not only join our colleagues in the CSU system, but even push the boundaries a bit.”

What you and your staff have been doing these past two years has been nothing short of a miracle. And a miracle is exactly what we from CSU Northridge received last year by way of obtaining 54 high-end Mac computers. Finally, someone with insight and dedication has turned the concept of bulk buying into reality. I truly believe that without (EII’s) staff’s hard work, this would not have been possible.”
