Finding Scholarships for College

Posted by Alex Caratti

The biggest favor you can do for yourself is secure funding for college. There are tons of scholarships that go unclaimed each year. You don’t have to be the smartest or most athletic student at your school to get one. Apply and you will surprise yourself.

When looking for scholarships, the first thing I did was go to my guidance counselor, who had a list of scholarships I could apply to. Once I went through those, I looked for opportunities offered by local charities, companies and non-profit organizations. Finally, I looked at other online resources, such as the San Diego Foundation which uses a common application. This means you fill out only one application to apply for multiple scholarships! I applied to the San Diego Foundation and found the application process to be very easy and understandable.

From my experience, the best advice when applying for scholarships is follow the application instructions! I also wrote essays that told my story and when selected for an interview, I showed the panel that I was the best choice. I applied to as many scholarships as I could. Invest time and effort and you will see some great results.
