Dorm Life

Posted by Jennifer

I have lived in student housing for two years. I’ve loved my experience living in housing and also working in housing! There are so many wonderful benefits! You meet new people, live minutes away from class, and attend multiple events. College is the time when you can leave your nest and experience some independence, and I believe student housing is a great place to start learning how to live on your own. It’s also nice that your roommates are going through the same situations you are, with similar concerns, and you can help each other out. If you ever get the opportunity, take advantage; it’s a one in a lifetime experience!

One of the most fun and best learning experiences I had in college was moving out and living on my own in the dorms. At most colleges or universities, freshmen are required to live on campus at least their first year. Now that I work in higher education with college students I see the importance more so than I did back when I was in college.

Living in the residence halls allows you to meet new people and become more independent. Your parents and teachers aren’t there to wake you up for class or make you do your homework. It’s all on you now. There is a great sense of pride and responsibility when you experience it. I would definitely urge anyone going off to college to live on campus at least their first year. I’d also encourage you to live near or around your campus as well if you can because it makes your college experience all the more worthwhile! Don’t be afraid, you’ll love it! I guarantee it!

The Start and the End

Fall semester started so soon where did the summer go. This marks the beginning of my last year as an undergrad. Time flew I recall the moment I moved into the dorms and how scared I felt to start a new chapter in my life. Four years later Turlock became my second home where I created long lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. Even though the end is coming in a couple of months. I know that it will be the start to my graduate education and a new chapter ready to be written.

Anyways, enough of that. I’m excited to what is to come this semester. I look forward to my classes and the various on-campus and sorority events. Rush started last week and it’s gone great so I look forward to this coming week.

For all of you, good luck this semester. I hope it’s a good one.
