Get Ready for the Application Season!

Posted by Mireille Garcia Serrato

Seniors get ready! CSU applications are just around the corner. Starting October 1, applications for CSU campuses will open, and you will have until November 30 to submit. However, be careful not to leave your application submission until the night before! Many times, students procrastinate and apply at the very last minute, causing heavy traffic on the CSU Mentor website.

Also, make sure to have someone look over your application before submitting. Ask a fellow classmate, your counselor, or teacher to have a second look. A second set of eyes is always helpful. In addition, be patient with the application process. Even if you submit your application early and campuses have viewed your application, you will still have to wait for the day admission decisions are made. That being said, you should definitely make time to review your application before submitting. Countdown begins today! Good luck!

Research Before You Apply!

Posted by Annette

The fall season is an important time for college planning. The California State University is now accepting applications for fall 2016 until November 30. If you are interested in applying, visit CSU Mentor to select the term you are applying for and fill out an application for any of the 23 campuses.

It is important to research what majors each campus offers, and campus websites and counselors are great resources to learn more about each school. Before I applied, I wanted to be sure that the campuses I was interested in offered my desired major, Communication Studies. I searched the degree programs at individual campuses and found which of the 23 campuses was the best fit for my academic path. Ultimately, I decided that CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton and CSU Northridge were my top three choices.

The application fee is $55.00 per campus, but in the case of financial hardships, there is a fee waiver application for California residents. I would recommend submitting your applications as soon as possible to hear back from campuses earlier.

We’re Here to Help!

It’s that time of year again when college applications are due! If you have yet to complete your CSUMentor application because you are not sure what to do, feel free to contact the admissions office at the school you are applying to. I still remember my own experience applying to San Diego State and the apprehension I had; I had more questions than the Internet could possibly answer. It was at that time I looked up the phone number to SDSU’s admissions office and asked all of my inquiries.

The admissions team is there to help you and ease the process of applying to college. Back in high school, I was able to utilize my college career center for application questions, as well as teachers on campus whom I trusted to review my applications and other supplemental materials before I submitted them.

So the moral of the story is to utilize the resources around you, especially if they are free! You don’t want to pass up a great opportunity like attending a CSU, so fill out the application by November 30. It’s the doorway to the future you envision for your life!
