Applying for Financial Aid
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) electronically each year.
  • The priority FAFSA filing date is March 2. Applicants who meet this deadline will receive first-priority consideration for funds.
  • The financial aid office at each college you list on your FAFSA will provide an evaluation of your eligibility for financial aid.
  • Typically, your financial aid package will list your total college costs for the year and detail how much you’ll have to contribute out of pocket, your expected family contribution (EFC) based on income and assets, and the amount that will be covered by grants, fee waivers, loans and other financial aid. Visit CSUMentor’s Cost Calculator to get a better idea of your personal college costs.
  • Financial aid offers will vary by college, so be sure to review them carefully and respond to deadlines and additional documentation requests.
  • Find more information about financial aid at FinAid.org.
