Research Before You Apply!

Posted by Annette

The fall season is an important time for college planning. The California State University is now accepting applications for fall 2016 until November 30. If you are interested in applying, visit CSU Mentor to select the term you are applying for and fill out an application for any of the 23 campuses.

It is important to research what majors each campus offers, and campus websites and counselors are great resources to learn more about each school. Before I applied, I wanted to be sure that the campuses I was interested in offered my desired major, Communication Studies. I searched the degree programs at individual campuses and found which of the 23 campuses was the best fit for my academic path. Ultimately, I decided that CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton and CSU Northridge were my top three choices.

The application fee is $55.00 per campus, but in the case of financial hardships, there is a fee waiver application for California residents. I would recommend submitting your applications as soon as possible to hear back from campuses earlier.

Aztec for Life!

From the moment I opened my acceptance letter to San Diego State University, I was completely joyful and excited to know my journey to an incredible college experience was about to begin.
I am currently in my sophomore year, and I can say that it has truly been an amazing year full of different experiences that I will remember for the rest of my life. Being a student at SDSU has impacted both my academic life and social life. I have met and networked with a variety of people by joining several student organizations and taking on leadership roles that have exposed me to new learning perspectives.
During my time here, I’ve discovered several unique things about SDSU. The campus is very well-rounded and diverse with many opportunities to choose from. The nice warm San Diego weather also makes the SDSU community enjoyable to live in. The majors and pre-professional programs offered here have very supportive personnel and the things you learn in your classes are relevant to your career path. Lastly, SDSU offers tons of networking experiences where you can meet life-long friends and even future employers.
It has been a blessing to be an SDSU student thus far because of all the incredible things the school has to offer. I am excited to continue building upon my memories here at SDSU and I am proud to be an Aztec for life!

Nurture Your Mind, Body and Spirit

Posted by Kiera Sailor

My first year as a freshman, I wasn’t homesick at all; I felt independent and free. However, my second year as a biology major became more intense, and the reality of academic difficulty hit me. I had to create new study tools and habits because the classes were very different from my first year classes. I didn’t know what to do. I was overwhelmed with chemistry exams, biology labs, social life and a part- time job. My family was encouraging but we were unable to talk face to face.

Then my friend referred me to CAPS, my campus Counseling and Psychological Services. Many students are ashamed to take advantage of these services, although they provide extremely valuable resources. The counselors are so caring and encouraging, and are available to speak with you one on one. They also work with your schedule and your preferences for a counselor. Just think of them as advisors for the mind, body and spirit, guiding you on how to balance every aspect of your life.
