Getting Involved in College

Posted by Monica

Getting involved in college is a rewarding, fun and beneficial experience. Personally, I love giving back, and especially like working with kids, so I chose to get involved by volunteering to give campus tours to middle school aged students as well as inform them about how to get to college. Some of my friends have been elected positions in Student Government and the HRE, which is the group of students who are in charge of the decisions made about living on campus. They love doing what they do, and I really love getting to talk to kids every week. I’ve made tons of friends through getting involved on campus, as well as other connections that may be beneficial. After getting involved I’ve gotten to know the University President, the Dean of Students and the Vice President of Student Affairs, all of whom I didn’t know before getting involved. In the future if I need a letter of reference for a job, it can look very impressive to have a personal letter from someone who holds such a prestigious position at a university. Getting involved in high or middle school can have similar outcomes, and I highly recommend getting as involved as possible!

My Favorite Moment in College

Posted by Marissa

College was an unforgettable experience for me. I learned so much about myself and about what I wanted to do for my career. Personally, my favorite moment can’t be narrowed down to only one particular event; I have had many favorite moments. Two of the most memorable would be winning an award for public relations from the Journalism department and graduating college. They were very proud moments for me because my hard work was recognized, which is a great feeling. College is what you make it. I truly believe if you get involved, work hard and mingle with other students, you will have an unforgettable experience too.

High School vs. College

Before I started college I didn’t know what to expect (especially since high school used to be such a drag for me). What most high school students don’t know is that college is actually a lot easier than high school. For example, there are hardly any rules in college. You can walk in and out of class whenever you want, you do not need to raise you hand every time you need to go to the restroom, and you can eat, drink and chew gum all you want. The best part of college is that you become a free and independent person. In my opinion, even the classes are easier than high school. Usually in college you only have a few midterms and a final, sometimes a presentation. It’s a really great experience and you just grow as a person.
