Get Connected!

Posted by Tiffaney Boyd

Hi, my name is Tiffaney Boyd and I am double majoring in Communication and Social Science at CSU San Marcos. Let me tell you, high school does not compare to college – college is full of exploration, events and experiences never imagined in high school. But it’s important to know that there is no need to wait or delay in college. As soon as you’re accepted, go get connected!

On college campuses, there are so many ways to get involved and learn about opportunities that you didn’t know existed. One thing that students often overlook in their first year is the Career Center. Don’t wait until your junior or senior year to stop by. Career counselors can help you at the start to get on the right path for success and help with interviews, resumes and internships.

Student life programs and on-campus clubs and organizations are also crucial to your personal development and connection to the campus. I got involved quite early on and I have no regrets. Through my involvements and connections, I landed a dream paid-internship, and got to fly to Sacramento and lobby on Capitol Hill (for free) and I’ve gained life-long friendships and mentors that were invaluable throughout my college journey.

With the amount of money you will be spending in college on tuition, books, and more, you don’t want to leave as the same person you came in as! So go forth and take advantage of everything your campus has to offer and leave college with memories that no class can teach. Go Cougars!

Aztec for Life!

Posted by Mireille Garcia Serrato

From the moment I opened my acceptance letter to San Diego State University, I was completely joyful and excited to know my journey to an incredible college experience was about to begin.
I am currently in my sophomore year, and I can say that it has truly been an amazing year full of different experiences that I will remember for the rest of my life. Being a student at SDSU has impacted both my academic life and social life. I have met and networked with a variety of people by joining several student organizations and taking on leadership roles that have exposed me to new learning perspectives.
During my time here, I’ve discovered several unique things about SDSU. The campus is very well-rounded and diverse with many opportunities to choose from. The nice warm San Diego weather also makes the SDSU community enjoyable to live in. The majors and pre-professional programs offered here have very supportive personnel and the things you learn in your classes are relevant to your career path. Lastly, SDSU offers tons of networking experiences where you can meet life-long friends and even future employers.
It has been a blessing to be an SDSU student thus far because of all the incredible things the school has to offer. I am excited to continue building upon my memories here at SDSU and I am proud to be an Aztec for life!

Better Yourself by Getting Involved

Posted by Grady Mitchell

I started college as a shy, introverted student living in the dorms knowing nobody on campus. I took general education courses that looked interesting with good professors, attended school and dorm events, hung out with people who I felt made me a better person, and went to organizations that I was interested in to learn more. Doing these things was not easy for me at all; feeling comfortable took time. But now I can say that I feel at home on my campus because I made the effort to put myself out there. I am heavily involved in a fraternity founded on values and ideals close to my heart, I am President of my school’s German Club and Treasurer of our Climbing Club, and I serve students on my campus as a representative in the Associated Students Inc. Board of Directors.

Follow your heart, take risks even when you’re afraid, and look for what is best for you!
