Connect with Professors

Posted by Annette

An important tip that I offer to incoming college students is to establish positive relationships with your professors. It allows them to get to know you better as a student. If you are in a large class, it might be hard for your professor to connect with you.

A great starting point to building a relationship with your professor is by visiting their office hours, which should be stated in the first class session of the semester. Visiting office hours is beneficial because your professors can give more in-depth feedback on your course work and even provide future career advice. In my own experience, I have found the professors in my department to be very helpful in my academic and professional career.

Work With Others

Posted by Lourd Ebuen

With school comes work. With work comes stress.

The workload can vary from student to student, and many times, it gets hard for us to just sit and work. This is where discipline plays a key role in succeeding in school. However, disciplining yourself to work can be tough at times. So find someone to work with!

Working with a colleague that is interested in the same field as you can make it easier to focus and can help relieve the stress that comes from a heavy workload. It is important to work with highly motivated students because it not only motivates you to get work done, but it ultimately builds discipline and prepares you for the field you are pursuing while you learn from others.

Get Ready for Admission Decisions

Posted by Mireille Garcia Serrato

Some of you may have already heard back from the colleges and universities you applied to. Congratulations! For those who haven’t, you should be receiving your responses throughout the spring. As you wait for your admission decisions, your main focus should be to continue keeping up with the new semester and maintaining good grades (that means C’s and above).

Many colleges require you to pass your classes with a C or above. Most also require you to maintain your GPA and although this can sound stressful, it is important for you to try your best. Sometimes if you receive a grade lower than a C, your admission can be at risk. Doing well in your classes is essential to maintaining your acceptance if you have already heard back from campuses. And when you do hear back, remember to stay motivated, do well academically, reach out and explore the campuses!
