Freshman Orientation

Posted by Jennifer

The summer before you attend a university as an incoming freshman, you will attend orientation. This summer I am an Orientation Leader and I am currently preparing for this summer’s first orientation along with 17 other wonderful Orientation Leaders. Looking back, I remember I was very nervous going to my orientation because I did not know what to expect, but being on the other side of the situation is completely different. I’m so excited to meet my freshmen! Our orientation staff looks forward to this huge event with anticipation and we work so hard to make it a success! If you will be attending orientation soon, know that this program is designed to make you feel welcome, deliver workshops that will assist in your success, and ensure you have a fun, safe experience!

Tips for studying

Posted by Matthew

Learn what works for you. Do you like music or need complete silence? Do you study best at night or in the morning? Everyone one is different and requires a different atmosphere to study in. One thing is for sure though; studying is a MUST. And it doesn’t just start at home. Take really good notes in class and ask questions if something doesn’t make sense. Professors are more than willing to help out if you don’t get something and they love participation.

Which College is Right For You?

Posted by Jennifer

In California, there are four different categories of colleges. Community college, CSU, UC, and private/independent. Which is the best? There is no right answer. There are hundreds of colleges and each one differs in what they have to offer. I’m sure there is a perfect one just for YOU! All you have to do is research schools online. What interests you? Do you want to go somewhere with a large student population? A variety of sports? A school close to home? Somewhere affordable? Think about what your priorities are, what components are important to you, and browse around! Applying to college can seem stressful, but if you think about it you can pick and choose what you like, similar to a buffet!! So relax, take the time to research and visit schools, and have fun with it!
