Senior Year Opportunities: Dont Waste Your Time

Posted by Arzoo

Senior year can be one of the most stressful but memorable times of our lives. From applying to different colleges, maintaining high grades to senior events, it is one hectic year. Utilizing our time to organize and refresh ourselves can be achieved through breaks such as winter or spring breaks. This is a time where you can think about organizing your summer into a productive one. You can look for different volunteering opportunities around your community. Or use this time as an opportunity to look into the different clubs, organizations or sororities you plan on joining. Extra time like these breaks can help balance out the stress, so use your time wisely.

Make S.M.A.R.T. Goals and Reach Your Dreams

Posted by Jade

Today I want to tell you about making S.M.A.R.T. goals and staying true to your dreams. It sounds a lot like staying focused. It is—focused on yourself. That is something a lot of teenagers and young adults either aren’t comfortable with, or have yet to realize the importance of.

My dream and goal is to become a counselor at the college level. My journey hasn’t always been smooth; there have been some bumps in the road making me question myself. But you can’t let life get you down, you must keep fighting! The first step is to make S.M.A.R.T. goals that are:

Specific (Who, What, Where, When, Why?)

Measurable (Track progress, reach target dates etc.)

Attainable (You’re both willing and able to work toward it)

Realistic (Goals are wise, reasonable, and important to you)

Timely (Grounded within a time frame)

If your goals are S.M.A.R.T. and your dreams are realistic, please stay on task. Don’t let a few bumps deter you from your destiny. Nothing in life is easy and sometimes, your dreams are worth struggling for. Keep that in mind the next time you’re faced with the seemingly “impossible”…and Happy Holidays!

Malala: Valuing Education

Posted by Evelyn

Recently, there was a little girl from Pakistan who is becoming a viral sensation for her interview with Jon Stewart on his daily show. Her name is Malala and she is 16 years old and she realizes one thing that many of us take for granted living in the U.S.A: Education is power. She was shot by the Taliban for standing up for women’s education. She knows that with education comes knowledge which is the most powerful weapon of all.

I think many of us fail to notice that in other parts of the world, education is prohibited. We have such an amazing opportunity here and many of us just complain: “Why do we have to go to school?” and “I can’t wait for school to end!” are all too common sayings that come from the mouths of students. We need to listen and learn from Malala’s story and revalue the education we receive. In the end, that is truly the only way we can become more united.
