The California State University 2012-2013 Budget Fact Sheet outlines the following:
State slashes investment in higher education
*State support for the CSU has been cut by almost $1 billion or 35% over the past 18 months. Student tuition fee increases cover only half of these cuts.
*With current and proposed “trigger” budget cuts, the CSU has $2,500 less to spend per student compared to 1998-99.
State threatens more higher education cuts
*If the Governor’s tax initiative is not approved by voters in November, the CSU faces an additional $200 million cut.
*The CSU opposes the Governor’s proposal to increase GPA requirements for Cal-Grant recipients.
*CSU already provides $700 million in state university grant aid and already cannot meet all students’ needs.
