CSU Support Budget for 2010-2011

September 23, 2009 – The CSU Board of Trustees will hear a preliminary plan for the 2010-2011 CSU Budget that will be submitted to the Board for approval in November. Under this plan, the CSU would seek the restoration of one-time cuts that were imposed by the state in 2009-10 — a $255 million line-item veto that was described by the Governor as a one-time cut and a $50 million cut by the Legislature adopted in the original budget act of February 2009. The budget proposal builds upon this restoration of funds and includes revenue assumptions based on the Higher Education Compact — a long-term agreement between the Governor and the public university systems.

The budget plan includes $94 million in state funding to cover an estimated amount of fee revenue that would be produced by a 10 percent student fee increase. Overall, the plan calls for the CSU to request a State General Fund increase of $882 million above the current $2.33 billion budget. This funding increase would enable the CSU to begin to reverse the damage caused by recent state budget cuts, including restoring courses and services to students and providing compensation increases to faculty and staff.
